LJ and Kat

LJ (Louis James) and Kat (Kathryn) moved to Hagerstown, Maryland in May of 1958 from Washington D.C. They raised five children and created an amazing life in beautiful western Maryland.

LJ was always ready to bring family and friends together to celebrate life. He always knew where the best and newest restaurant was when he traveled, whether for a long weekend get-away or a two-week sojourn, it was all about being together around a table, usually a very large one, with fantastic food, wonderful wine, and magnificent memories.

It was in this atmosphere that LJ and Kat’s youngest son developed his love for food, wine, and entertaining – the joy of living.

LJ’s & THE KAT LOUNGE is named in honor of the two people who instilled in their son the love of “entertaining friends and strangers, alike, in a friendly warm atmosphere with fantastic food, wonderful wine, and magnificent memories."
